It’s always a pleasure working with Leonie from Maple and Oak Designs. For her latest shoot, we had the incredible opportunity to work with Golden Acre Home and Garden. It’s always hard in Canada to find ways to do Spring & Summer lookbooks on a budget. It never fails that it’s the middle of winter when you need to have a fun and warm vibe.
The tropical department at Golden Acre is the perfect solution. Lush plants and deep greens make the perfect backdrop for a photoshoot like this one. We cannot thank Golden Acre enough for letting us use their space!
And I might have picked up a plant or two on the way out!

It is 100% no secret that I love the products Leonie comes up with for her Maple and Oak Designs line of fashion accessories. There is literally something for everyone, which makes shooting a lookbook dynamic and fun!
After hunting around for a great location, we started the day off in Inglewood after discovering a great deep turquoise wall. The stunning deep colour was the perfect backdrop to give great contrast to all the Spring looks, like bright pastels and beautiful florals. Continue reading “Maple and Oak Designs Lookbook 2016”
At the beginning of the year, I took some time to map out my blog post schedule. In my effort to blog with more regularity, I sat down and planned what days and which topics would be published all the way through to the end of June.
When it came to this week’s post, my schedule read the vague and daunting subject of, “Emotional Support in Small Businesses.” I looked at this topic and immediately said to myself, “I do not know where to begin with this one.”
So, I texted Leonie, complained to her that I had delivered an impossible topic to myself, and lamented that I just didn’t feel like writing this one. After a bit of back and forth, I was more at ease, relieved that my friend was there to make me feel better and that she understood how tough it was.
And though she didn’t know it, she gave me my article with that one small gesture. Continue reading “Emotional Support in Small Businesses”
Funky, retro, and undoubtedly fun, Leonie Vatter’s Maple and Oak Designs are the perfect accessories to brighten up any outfit. From her trademark triangle scarf to her cute rockabilly headbands, to her suave beau-ties for the gentleman in your life, there’s something for everyone.
Given our many collaborations in recent years, it wasn’t hard to select Leonie as the local maker to kick off this series. Born in the small German town of Bad Oldesloe, she moved with her family and grew up in the UNESCO World Heritage site of Lübeck, famous for its gothic architecture. It was there she learned to sew in school, inspired by her mother, her grandmother, great aunt, and great grandmother. Continue reading “Makers in the Raw: Maple and Oak Designs”
It’s no secret that I love the scarves & accessories my friend Leonie makes under her brand Maple & Oak Designs. We’ve collaborated on a few projects now (stay tuned for a post on our head band line!), but a few weeks ago, I got a chance to photograph her Fall & Winter Lookbook.
As always, I had a great time working with Leonie, but it was especially fun working on these portraits for her. Be sure to check out the highlights in the slideshow below and click over to her website to see her full collection – and maybe pick up a scarf or two!
