I have been working on these beauties for awhile now. Their saga began with troubles getting the colour representation right, and then continued with a shipment of nearly all broken tiles, and finally, they’re ready to be unveiled.
The coaster sets have been a labour of love, though. The tumbled stone style reminds me of being an archaeologist in all the right ways*. The stone looks ancient, the photo imperfect and like a tin-type, and it all comes together in an interesting old/new fusion.
Each coaster has been sealed with a light clear coat and their backs feature a solid piece of cork. They won’t slip and they will resist stains and scrapes. Plus, it’s art!
In the end, these are going to end up being a limited-run item. You won’t see these on Etsy, but you will find them on my table at various art shows and they can be custom-ordered by Calgary locals. If you want to score you own set, drop me a line by email.
* Stay tuned for some interesting things I’m going to try with the broken tiles. They remind me of the ceramic sherds we dig up in the field, so I’m going to run with that. Waste not, want not!
